Nearly 100-Year-Old Message In A Bottle Found In St. Clair River (The Police - 'Message in a Bottle')

A local diver's discovery of a nearly 100-year-old message in a bottle has caused a stir in Michigan, where historians have been working to solve the mystery of its authors.

Dave Leander of the Great Lakes Dive Center happened upon the cool find while diving for treasure 30 feet below the surface of the St. Clair River last June.

A message in a bottle lost at sea for nearly a century has claimed a new world record, Guinness officials have confirmed.

The 97-year-old letter, discovered just off the Shetland isles, claims the title for the longest time a bottle has been adrift at sea by five years.

It was discovered by Scottish skipper Andrew Leaper as he hauled in his fishing nets, who described the astonishing find as like 'winning the lottery.'
